माता-पिता के चरणों में ब्रह्मांड

एक प्रसंग सभी को मालूम होगा, जब भगवान भोलेनाथ और माता पार्वती ने अपने दोनों पुत्रों कार्तिकेय जी और गणेशजी के समक्ष ब्रह्मांड का चक्कर लगाने की प्रतियोगिता रखी कि दोनों में से कौन पहले ब्रह्मांड का चक्कर लगाता है। गणेश जी और कार्तिकेयजी दोनों एक साथ रवाना हुए। कार्तिकेयजी का वाहन था मोर जबकि गणेश जी का मूषक। कार्तिकेयजी क्षण भर में मोर पर बैठकर आँखों से ओझल हो गए जबकि गणेशजी अपनी सवारी पर धीरे-धीरे चलने लगे।

थोड़ी देर में गणेशजी फिर लौट आए और माता-पिता से क्षमा माँगी और उनकी 3 बार परिक्रमा कर कहा- लीजिए मैंने आपका काम कर दिया। दोनों गद्‍गद्‍ हो गए और पुत्र गणेश की बात से सहमत भी हुए। गणेश का कहना था ‍कि माता-पिता के चरणों में ही संपूर्ण ब्रह्मांड होता है।

गणेशजी के भक्तों को उनकी इसी सीख को आत्मसात करते हुए अपने माता-पिता की सेवा करनी चाहिए। हर हाल में माता-पिता को अपने साथ रख उनका ध्यान रखना चाहिए। हमें अपने आसपास देखने में आता है कि धीरे-धीरे हम पाश्चात्य संस्कृति के रंग में रंगते जा रहे हैं। माता-पिता वृद्ध हुए कि उन्हें उनका घर (वृ्द्धाश्रम) दिखा देते हैं।

गणेश चतुर्थी पर गणपति बप्पा मोरया के साथ-साथ अपने माता-पिता की सेवा का भी अवसर न चूकें। यही गणेशजी के प्रति आपकी सच्ची श्रद्धा होगी। दुर्वा गणेशजी को चढ़ाएँ और मोदक का भोग लगाएँ जो कि उनको बहुत‍ प्रिय हैं।

शादी के पहले तक माता-पिता ही सब दिखाई देते हैं। शादी के बाद वही स्थान पत्नी और फिर बच्चों का हो जाता है तो फिर वृद्ध माँ-बाप किसके भरोसे रहेंगे। आपके इस व्यवहार का लाभ आपको भी आगे जाकर मिलेगा। प्रेमचंद की ‘बूढ़ी काकी’ कहानी की भाँति जो बच्चे अपने सामने आपका व्यवहार दादा-दादी के साथ देखेंगे। वही वे आपके प्रति भी रखेंगे। आवश्यकता है समय रहते सचेत जाएँ।

जिन माता-पिता ने हमें अनेक कष्ट सहकर पाला-पोसा और बड़ा किया है, हमें उनका तिरस्कार कभी नहीं करना चाहिए। माता-पिता का साया किस्मत वालों के सिर पर ही होता है। एक बार जरा उन ‍अपने मित्रों या परिचि‍तों से मिलकर देखिए जिनके माता-पिता नहीं हैं। तो शायद इस बात का एहसास बखूबी हो जाएगा।

गणेश चतुर्थी पर गणपति बप्पा मोरया के साथ-साथ अपने माता-पिता की सेवा का भी अवसर न चूकें। यही गणेशजी के प्रति आपकी सच्ची श्रद्धा होगी। दुर्वा गणेशजी को चढ़ाएँ और मोदक का भोग लगाएँ जो कि उनको बहुत‍ प्रिय हैं। इसे अर्पित करने के बाद आपकी दिन दूनी और रात चौगुनी तरक्की के रास्ते में कोई बाधा नहीं आएगी और गणपति बप्पा भी कभी आपसे नहीं रूठेंगे।

प्रत्येक शुक्ल पक्ष चतुर्थी को चन्द्रदर्शन के पश्चात्‌ व्रती को आहार लेने का निर्देश है, इसके पूर्व नहीं। किंतु भाद्रपद शुक्ल पक्ष की चतुर्थी को रात्रि में चन्द्र-दर्शन (चन्द्रमा देखने को) निषिद्ध किया गया है।

जो व्यक्ति इस रात्रि को चन्द्रमा को देखते हैं उन्हें झूठा-कलंक प्राप्त होता है। ऐसा शास्त्रों का निर्देश है। यह अनुभूत भी है। इस गणेश चतुर्थी को चन्द्र-दर्शन करने वाले व्यक्तियों को उक्त परिणाम अनुभूत हुए, इसमें संशय नहीं है। यदि जाने-अनजाने में चन्द्रमा दिख भी जाए तो निम्न मंत्र का पाठ अवश्य कर लेना चाहिए-

सिहः प्रसेनम्‌ अवधीत्‌, सिंहो जाम्बवता हतः। सुकुमारक मा रोदीस्तव ह्येष स्वमन्तकः॥’

उक्त मंत्र बोलकर कल्याण की कामना से श्रद्धापूर्वक नमस्कार कर लें। यह शास्त्र का दोष शमनार्थ निर्देश है।

दूर्वार्पण विधि

सांसारिक कामनाएँ इस संसार में आए प्रत्येक व्यक्ति को होती हैं। कई कामनाओं का संबंध मूल आवश्यकता से होता है। इसी इच्छापूर्ति की प्राप्ति के लिए व्यक्ति अपनी क्षमता के अनुसार प्रयास करता है। लेकिन भौतिक प्रयत्न से भी फल नहीं मिलने पर आशा ईश्वरीय चमत्कार कीओर जाती है। जिसकी प्राप्ति तभी संभव होती है जब आपेक्षक सविधि कोई अनुष्ठान करता है। इसमें गणेशजी की साधना शीघ्र फलदायी है। इनके अनेक प्रयोग में उनको प्रिय दूर्वा के चढ़ाने की पूजा शीघ्र फलदायी और सरलतम है। इसे किसी भी शुभ दिन प्रारंभ करना चाहिए। इसे गणेशजी की प्रतिष्ठित प्रतिमा पर करें। इक्कीस दूर्वा लेकर इन नाम मंत्र द्वारा गणेशजी को गंध, अक्षत, पुष्प, धूप, दीप व नैवेद्य अर्पण करके एक-एक नाम पर दो-दो दूर्वा चढ़ाना चाहिए। यह क्रम प्रतिदिन जारी रखने एवं नियमित समय पर करने से जो आप चाहते हैं उसकी प्रार्थनागणेशजी से करते रहने पर वह शीघ्र पूर्ण हो जाती है। इसमें इस प्रयोग के अतिरिक्त विघ्ननायक पर श्रद्धा व विश्वास रखना चाहिए।ॐ गणाधिपाय नमः ॐ उमापुत्राय नमः ॐ विघ्ननाशनाय नमः ॐ विनायकाय नमः ॐ ईशपुत्राय नमः ॐ सर्वसिद्धिप्रदाय नमः ॐ एकदन्ताय नमः ॐ इभवक्त्राय नमः ॐ मूषकवाहनाय नमः ॐ कुमारगुरवे नमः

मुंबई शेयर बाजार 9000 के नीचे

विश्वभर के शेयर बाजारों से गिरावट के समाचारों के बीच चौतरफा बिकवाली दबाव में बम्बई शेयर बाजार (बीएसई) और नेशनल स्टॉक एक्सचेंज (एनएसई) को मंगलवार को लगातार पाँचवें कारोबारी दिवस में जोरदार झटका लगा। बीएसई सेंसेक्स 13 कारोबारी दिवसों के बाद फिर 9 हजार अंक से नीचे आ गया। एनएसई निफ्टी ने 116 अंक की डुबकी लगाई। अमेरि‍का के शेयर बाजार में सोमवार की गिरावट का सिलसिला बना रहने से आज एशियाई बाजार भी लुढ़के और यहाँ भी ऑक्सीजन नहीं मिल सकी। कारोबार की शुरुआत से ही बिकवाली के दबाव में रहे शेयर बाजार अंत तक इससे उबर नहीं पाए। सेंसेक्स सोमवार के 9291.01 अंक की तुलना में 9084.12 अंक पर नीचा खुला और उठापटक वाले कारोबार में ऊपर 9169.05 अंक तथा नीचे में 8871.71 अंक तक लुढ़का तथा समाप्ति पर इसके मुकाबले मामूली सुधरने के बावजूद कुल 353.81 अंक अर्थात 3.81 प्रतिशत के नुकसान से 8937.20 अंक रह गया। तेरह कारोबारी दिवसों अर्थात 27 अक्टूबर के बाद सेंसेक्स फिर 9 हजार अंक से नीचे आया। 27 अक्टूबर को सेंसेक्स 8509.50 अंक पर बंद हुआ था। एनएसई निफ्टी की चाल सेंसेक्स से थोड़ी हटकर रही। कारोबार की शुरुआत में निफ्टी सोमवार के 2799.55 अंक के मुकाबले 2802.45 अंक पर खुला और इससे ऊपर नहीं उठ पाया। नीचे में 2664.30 अंक तक गिरने के बाद समाप्ति पर कुल 116.40 अंक अर्थात 4.16 प्रतिशत की गिरावट से 2683.15 अंक रह गया। निफ्टी का यह स्तर 29 अक्टूबर के 2697.05 के बाद का निम्नतम है। दोनों ही शेयर बाजारों में ताबड़तोड़ बिकवाली देखी गई और इनके किसी भी वर्ग के सूचकांक इससे बच नहीं सके। बीएसई मिडकैप और स्मॉलकैप को क्रमश: 2.33 तथा 2.81 प्रतिशत का झटका रहा। आईटी, मैटल, पीएसयू, बैंकेक्स, पावर और टेक वर्गों के सूचकांक में चार प्रतिशत से अधिक की गिरावट दर्ज की गई। एनएसई मिडकैप 2.56 प्रतिशत और जूनियर 3.09 प्रतिशत नीचे आए। एशियाई बाजारों में चीन के शंघाई कम्पोजिट ने 6.3 प्रतिशत की डुबकी लगाई। हांगकांग का हैंगसैंग साढे़ चार प्रतिशत और जापान का निक्केई 2.3 प्रतिशत टूटे। यूरोप के शेयर बाजार भी कमजोर खुले हैं और ऑस्ट्रेलिया में 3.6 प्रतिशत का नुकसान हुआ है। बीएसई का हाल यह था कि 2566 कंपनियों के शेयरों में कामकाज हुआ और इसमें से 71.24 प्रतिशत अर्थात 1828 के शेयर टूटे, जबकि 25.88 प्रतिशत अथवा 664 में सुधार और 74 में स्थिरता थी। सेंसेक्स की तीस कंपनियों में केवल एक कंपनी रैनबैक्सी लैबोरेटरीज का शेयर फायदे में रहा। इसमें 212.45 रुपए पर आधा प्रतिशत अर्थात 1.05 रुपए का सुधार हुआ। नुकसान वाली उन्तीस कंपनियों के शेयर में आई वर्ग की तीसरी बड़ी विप्रो लिमिटेड के शेयर को प्रतिशत के लिहाज से सबसे अधिक 8.77 प्रतिशत का झटका लगा। कंपनी का शेयर 22.10 रुपए टूटकर 229.85 रुपए पर बंद हुआ। ऊर्जा कंपनी एनटीपीसी के शेयर में 139.20 रुपए पर 7.88 प्रतिशत अर्थात 11.90 रुपए निकले। बैंकिंग वर्ग में आईसीआईसीआई बैंक को 6.79 प्रतिशत का नुकसान हुआ। बैंक का शेयर 26.30 रुपए गिरकर 360.75 रुपए रह गया। एसबीआई में 1108.30 रुपए पर 5.12 प्रतिशत अर्थात 59.80 रुपए निकल गए। आईटी वर्ग की अग्रणी टीसीएस के शेयर को 482.60 रुपए पर 6.96 प्रतिशत अर्थात 36.10 रुपए का घाटा उठाना पड़ा। एसीसी, मारुति सुजूकी, भारती एयरटेल, जयप्रकाश एसोसिएट्स, महिन्द्रा एंड महिन्द्रा, टाटा पॉवर, एचडीएफसी, ओएनजीसी, रिलायंस कम्युनिकेशंस, ग्रासिम इंडस्ट्रीज, इन्फोसिस टेक्नोलॉजी, स्टरलाइट इंडस्ट्रीज, सत्यम कंप्यूटर, एलएंडटी और हिंडाल्को सेंसेक्स के नुकसान वाली पहली बीस कंपनियों के शेयर थे और इनमें तीन से लेकर सात प्रतिशत का घाटा हुआ।

The economic crisis the world is facing today takes me down the memory lane to the day in the year 1964 when my father died leaving behind an uneducated wife with a gigantic responsibility of bringing up four daughters and a son. All were studying at that time, brother being the eldest was still in college and the youngest sister in standard four. And we were going to one of the most expensive schools of Delhi. Not only us she also had the responsibility of my father's sister and her daughter. What did she do? I really don't know how much my father had left behind or how she managed. I am writing this on the basis of the changes that took place in our household. She was told by all the relatives that she will have to remove us from the school and move to a smaller town but she took the advice of one well wishing friend who told her not to do so. (That is why it is very important to have a Krishna with you). She also got support from the company my father worked for. Unlike the companies of today they allowed her to stay on in the house till we were settled. Life went on as before but with changes. Her French chiffons and silks were packed off and she took to wearing white suit made of the cheapest material. She did not ask my aunt to leave the house nor did she ask her to pay for her food and lodging. In management language, she made her an asset. My aunt being educated, paid back in full by giving her support and stood and got a house constructed for her, which became a source of income for my mother. Some of the friends and relatives stood by her and others when they realized that she is not going to ask for anything returned later. She did not hold grudge against anyone. As during my father's time our house remained open to all. Her table always remained replenished but with a difference. The daily course of non-veg disappeared. It was always simple dal-sabji meal cooked in dalda. Pure ghee vanished out of the window. When people say dalda is bad for health, I laugh at them. Same with all the expensive dry fruits and fruits. Only peanuts and bananas. Things remained the same even when my elder brother and sister started working. They did not try to revive the old standard. Nor did they try to get extra for themselves. Frills were out of our lives. My brother had already taken a decision that he will not get married. There were still three others studying and we had to be married off also. I went to college with just two dresses. I could not demand a third. My elder brothers and sisters were in the same boat to the extent that my brother did not discard his torn shirt. He would wear it under his court in winters. The dignity with which she lived and the relationship she maintained with friends and relatives won her so much respect that she did not have to move out of the house to hunt boys for us. In '73 all of us having completed our education and my three sisters having got married, we moved out of the company house. People were shocked to see how she could afford to give all that was given to us. Not once did the house get painted before any wedding or akhand paths were conducted. When she passed away in 2000 she had just 8 white dresses to her name. I am not writing this to promote my mother. The whole purpose of writing it to make the people realize that there is always enough for your needs. If my mother could manage to keep the ship afloat and sail through the crises, why can't we. Sacrifices have to be made at the micro level to take care of the macro problems. Today, when he can afford to be extravagant my brother does not do so. If this is a global problem then we all have to make some sacrifices.

A Giant Takes On Physics’ Biggest Questions

Three decades after it was conceived, the world's most powerful physics experiment is ready to be powered up.

Engineers will attempt to circulate a beam of particles around the 27km-long underground tunnel which houses the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).

The £5bn machine is designed to smash particles together with cataclysmic force, revealing signs of new physics in the wreckage.

This will re-create conditions in the Universe moments after the Big Bang.

But it has not been plain sailing; the project has been hit by cost overruns, equipment trouble and construction problems. The switch-on itself is two years late.

The collider is operated by the European Organization for Nuclear Research - better known by its French acronym Cern.

The vast circular tunnel - the "ring" - which runs under the French-Swiss border contains more than 1,000 cylindrical magnets arranged end-to-end.

The magnets are there to steer the beam - made up of particles called protons - around this 27km-long ring.

Eventually, two proton beams will be steered in opposite directions around the LHC at close to the speed of light, completing about 11,000 laps each second.At allotted points around the tunnel, the beams will cross paths, smashing together near four massive "detectors" that monitor the collisions for interesting events.

Scientists are hoping that new sub-atomic particles will emerge, revealing fundamental insights into the nature of the cosmos.

Major effort

"We will be able to see deeper into matter than ever before," said Dr Tara Shears, a particle physicist at the University of Liverpool.

"We will be looking at what the Universe was made of billionths of a second after the Big Bang. That is amazing, that really is fantastic."

The LHC should answer one very simple question: What is mass?

ATLAS - one of two so-called general purpose detectors. Atlas will be used to look for signs of new physics, including the origins of mass and extra dimensions
CMS - the second general purpose detector will, like ATLAS, hunt for the Higgs boson and look for clues to the nature of dark matter
ALICE - will study a "liquid" form of matter called quark-gluon plasma that existed shortly after the Big Bang
LHCb - Equal amounts of matter and anti-matter were created in the Big Bang. LHCb will try to investigate what happened to the "missing" anti-matter

"We know the answer will be found at the LHC," said Jim Virdee, a particle physicist at Imperial College London.

The currently favoured model involves a particle called the Higgs boson - dubbed the "God Particle". According to the theory, particles acquire their mass through interactions with an all-pervading field carried by the Higgs.

The latest astronomical observations suggest ordinary matter - such as the galaxies, gas, stars and planets - makes up just 4% of the Universe.

The rest is dark matter (23%) and dark energy (73%). Physicists think the LHC could provide clues about the nature of this mysterious "stuff".

But Professor Virdee told BBC News: "Nature can surprise us... we have to be ready to detect anything it throws at us."

Full beam ahead

Engineers injected the first low-intensity proton beams into the LHC in August. But they did not go all the way around the ring.

Now they will attempt to pass a proton beam around the full circumference of the LHC tunnel.

"We see how far the beam will go," said Steve Myers, head of the accelerator and beams department at Cern, "we will try and make it go round the full 27km sometime on Wednesday morning."

Engineers will be on the lookout for any potential problems: "There are on the order of 2,000 magnetic circuits in the machine. This means there are 2,000 power supplies which generate the current which flows in the coils of the magnets," he told BBC News.

"If any single one of them has got the wrong polarity, or has the wrong calibration constant, or whatever, then the beam will not go round.

"If, in any of the channels [in the magnets], there is any piece of debris - it is a very small channel - then the beam will not go round."

Grabbing protons

Mr Myers has experience of the latter problem. While working on the LHC's predecessor, a machine called the Large-Electron Positron Collider, engineers found two beer bottles wedged into the beam pipe - a deliberate, one-off act of sabotage.

The culprits - who were drinking a particular brand which advertising once claimed would "refresh the parts other beers cannot reach" - were never found.

If all goes well, and the beam makes one turn, engineers will "close the orbit", allowing the beam to circulate continuously around the LHC.

Engineers will then try to "capture" it. The beam which circles the LHC is not continuous; it is composed of several packets - each about a metre long - containing billions of protons.

The protons would disperse if left to their own devices, so engineers use electrical forces to "grab" them, keeping the particles tightly huddled in packets.

Once the beam has been captured, the same system of electrical forces is used to give the particles an energetic kick, accelerating them to greater and greater speeds.

After Wednesday's test, engineers will need to get two beams running in opposite directions around the LHC. They can then carry out collisions by smashing them together.

Long haul

The idea of the Large Hadron Collider emerged in the early 1980s. The project was eventually approved in 1996 at a cost of SFr2.6bn.

However, Cern underestimated equipment and engineering costs when it set out its original budget, plunging the lab into a cash crisis.

Cern had to borrow hundreds of millions of euros in bank loans to get the LHC completed. The current price is nearly four times that originally envisaged.

During winter, the LHC will be shut down, allowing equipment to be fine-tuned for collisions at full energy.

"What's so exciting is that we haven't had a large new facility starting up for years," explained Dr Shears.

"Our experiments are so huge, so complex and so expensive that they don't come along very often. When they do, we get all the physics out of them that we can."

Steve Myers said engineers would break out the champagne if all went to plan. But a particular brand of beer will not be on the menu, he said.

John Ellis, a Cern physicist. "If you take astrophysics seriously, there has to be some unseen stuff out there," he said.

Physics, after all, is supposed to be a cerebral pursuit. But this cavern almost measureless to the eye, stuffed as it is with an Eiffel Tower’s worth of metal, eight-story wheels of gold fan-shape boxes, thousands of miles of wire and fat ductlike coils, echoes with the shriek of power tools, the whine of pumps and cranes, beeps and clanks from wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers and the occasional falling bolt. It seems no place for the studious.

The physicists, wearing hardhats, kneepads and safety harnesses, are scrambling like Spiderman over this assembly, appropriately named Atlas, ducking under waterfalls of cables and tubes and crawling into hidden room-size cavities stuffed with electronics.

They are getting ready to see the universe born again.

Again and again and again — 30 million times a second, in fact.

Starting sometime next summer if all goes to plan, subatomic particles will begin shooting around a 17-mile underground ring stretching from the European Center for Nuclear Research, or Cern, near Geneva, into France and back again — luckily without having to submit to customs inspections.

Crashing together in the bowels of Atlas and similar contraptions spaced around the ring, the particles will produce tiny fireballs of primordial energy, recreating conditions that last prevailed when the universe was less than a trillionth of a second old.

Whatever forms of matter and whatever laws and forces held sway Back Then — relics not seen in this part of space since the universe cooled 14 billion years ago — will spring fleetingly to life, over and over again in all their possible variations, as if the universe were enacting its own version of the “Groundhog Day” movie. If all goes well, they will leave their footprints in mountains of hardware and computer memory.

“We are now on the endgame,” said Lyn Evans, of Cern, who has been in charge of the Large Hadron Collider, as it is called, since its inception. Call it the Hubble Telescope of Inner Space. Everything about the collider sounds, well, large — from the 14 trillion electron volts of energy with which it will smash together protons, its cast of thousands and the $8 billion it cost to build, to the 128 tons of liquid helium needed to cool the superconducting magnets that keep the particles whizzing around their track and the three million DVDs worth of data it will spew forth every year.

The day it turns on will be a moment of truth for Cern, which has spent 13 years building the collider, and for the world’s physicists, who have staked their credibility and their careers, not to mention all those billions of dollars, on the conviction that they are within touching distance of fundamental discoveries about the universe. If they fail to see something new, experts agree, it could be a long time, if ever, before giant particle accelerators are built on Earth again, ringing down the curtain on at least one aspect of the age-old quest to understand what the world is made of and how it works.

Fabiola Gianotti, a Cern physicist and the deputy spokeswoman for the team that built the Atlas, said, “Something must happen.”

The accelerator, Dr. Gianotti explained, would take physics into a realm of energy and time where the current reigning theories simply do not apply, corresponding to an era when cosmologists think that the universe was still differentiating itself, evolving from a primordial blandness and endless potential into the forces and particles that constitute modern reality.

She listed possible discoveries like a mysterious particle called the Higgs that is thought to endow other particles with mass, new forms of matter that explain the mysterious dark matter waddling the cosmos and even new dimensions of spacetime.

“For me,” Dr. Gianotti said, “it would be a dream if, finally, in a couple of years in a laboratory we are going to produce the particle responsible for 25 percent of the universe.”

Halfway around the ring stood her rival of sorts, Jim Virdee from Imperial College London, wearing a hardhat at the bottom of another huge cavern. Dr. Virdee is the spokesman, which is physics-speak for leader, of another team, some 2,500 strong, with another giant detector, the poetically named Compact Muon Detector, which was looming over his shoulder like a giant cannon.
